“Do you think he’s okay?”
“Who?” Wout asks.
“Tadej. Do you think he’s okay?”
His teammate’s laughter echoes through the room. Jonas blushes immediately, caught red-handed, while Wout gently makes fun of him. The Belgian isn’t wrong. Worrying about Tadej Pogačar… the idea is ridiculous. Almost absurd. Jonas is perfectly aware that the Slovenian would never show the slightest concern for him in return.

His hands tremble against his legs, his fingers clenched so tightly they almost hurt. His mind is racing, unable to grasp a single clear thought. He wishes he could turn back time, erase every memory.
He just wants to go back… He wants his old life again.
Tadej wants everything to stop.

War...
For as long as Jonas can remember, war has been part of his life. The war between the Kingdom of Ardonyria and the Kingdom of Gelindel had already broken out when Jonas was born. War has cradled Jonas' life from an early age, formed and trained for war since Jonas was old enough to walk.
“You will make your father proud. You'll follow in his footsteps and be an even greater man than he was. "
“Why. .. why are you doing this?” spits Jonas, his voice trembling. « Why do you treat me like this? Why... why don't you treat me like any other prisoner! “
“Jonas...” Tadej murmurs softly, his words like flames in the cold, calm, reassuring, “I don't want to hurt you, I promise, I just want to help you, please don't force me to hurt you.”
“Why,” Jonas repeats, his voice breaking. “You should hate me... you should kill me! Why don't you! Why do you insist on doing this? I'm not worth it!”
“When was the last time you had a choice? “ asks Tadej in a soft but firm voice.
Why didn't Prince Tadej Pogačar kill him when he had the chance?
