Conditionally severing herself from her inner Helly R way before she gets a chip. Some scenes are inspired by specific moments of the show to add to the deep layers of subtext.

Summary
At the Eastfield Depot, Kate is nearly run over by an OCG vehicle, but she’s saved at the last second by a dark-haired woman. Filled with doubts at AC-12’s mishandling of the Corbett investigation and seeking a way out, Kate tracks her down: DCI Jo Davidson of MIT. Kate joins MIT and they begin to fall in love. But as the Vella investigation commences and the events of the series play out, Kate becomes increasingly unsure who she can trust. She and Jo make a decision that will change both their lives forever.
“Was this all just a con, then?” Kate asks. “Was that kiss, the way you looked at me, the way you touched me - was it all nothing more than some vicious play to make me bent, too? Just another dirty copper in your lot’s sick games?”
“No!” Jo unwinds her limbs and stares at Kate, aghast. “It was real, Kate, I swear it.” She glances away and her voice breaks as she murmurs, “It’s still real, all of it.”
Kate stares at her. Her anti-corruption training is screaming at her in her mind’s eye. The smart thing to do would be to walk out of here, she thinks; walk out of here and call the gaffer from her car. Instead, as if from a very great distance, she hears herself say, “Do you swear?”
