Conditionally severing herself from her inner Helly R way before she gets a chip. Some scenes are inspired by specific moments of the show to add to the deep layers of subtext.

The muffled voice speaking to her is high and soft and far away, but the shape – a woman, as it turns out – is kneeling beside Helena, leaning down close to her face and clad in a long blue coat with eyes just the same shade.
"Is this Heaven? Have I gone to be with Kier?" Helena slurs. Of course his seraphim wear lab coats.
“No, but I’ll see if that can be arranged,” the woman grumbles.
Or, Helena Eagan is dropped facedown into a Lumon laboratory in January 1999 as critical advances are made in the application of severance chip technology. Helming those advances, to Helena's surprise and consternation, is Harmony Cobel.

Summary
Helly stands up from her desk, feeling weak and shaky. She locks eyes with Mark, who isn’t doing much better. There’s a roaring in her ears as Milchick continues to talk, but she can’t focus on him. All she can focus on is Mark, and how sad and scared he looks. How she’s gotten so used to him, how she just realized she likes him, and how suddenly, thanks to his outie, she’s about to lose him forever.

Summary
As soon as Helena pushes the door closed behind them, she’s hit by the gentle weight of Mark's body as he presses her into the adjacent wall, a gasp suspended in the back of her throat as his lips cover hers. She responds without really meaning to, just muscle memory, her head leaning back into his cupped hand as he protects her from knocking against the hard surface. The act of it is so tender that she can’t take it anymore, can’t take this—something she didn’t earn and doesn’t deserve.
She wedges her hand between them, palm to his chest, and pushes back. The look of hurt that flashes in his eyes is almost enough to pull him back to her.
“I’m—I’m sorry, Helly. Before the OTC… I should’ve kissed you back then; I wanted to. I—I thought—”
“I’m Helena Eagan,” she says, the confession tumbling out as an exhale.

Helena's scar burned. Jaw setting, giving away enough stress to embody instability within The Nine, hence instability within The Four.
"To evolve is to hurt." Helena's words came out robotically—trained—almost sounding like him. Antagonistic tension tightly held the muscles of her throat, though, reminding her that, even if her mind was built to imitate its maker, her emotions had no true faith.

Gemma still felt it all - what went down in that hallway. She wondered who dressed Helly R every morning.
