Helly and Maeve Riggs form an immediate bond, Maeve finding solace in this kind, caring fragment of her mother she hasn’t seen in a long time and Helly seeing so much of herself in this child she's not supposed to consider her own. Helena tries to stand in their way, only to be undermined by her father's self-serving interests. Helena and Helly each see the other as the villain in this story—Helena the cold, emotionally neglectful parent and Helly the wedge pulling Maeve and Helena further apart—but perhaps the two of them have more in common than they realize.
Maybe they aren't at odds after all.
