Summary
Trinity enters the ER, second cup of coffee in hand, with the kind of exhaustion that usually waits until at least halfway through the shift. Whitaker had slept at Amy’s again, leaving Trinity alone in the apartment—it was weird how the apartment never felt lonely before Whitaker moved in, but now mourned his absence if he wasn’t there.
Whatever.
It was probably for the best anyway. Trinity had had another nightmare. The kind of nightmare that makes you scared to go back to sleep. The kind of nightmare she hadn’t had since med school.
The kind of nightmare that became frequent after she relapsed.
So now she was running on coffee and barely more than two hours of sleep and she still had to go to work.
OR: Trinity refuses to admit to anyone that she’s struggling, but when a patient attack forces it out into the open, she realizes how many people are on her side. -

The red phone ringing causes Dana to look up from the chart. She reaches for it and puts it to her ear, “PTMC charge nurse, go ahead medic command.”
The voice at the other end barely registers at first. Dana vaguely hears disjointed words, ‘active shooter,’ and, ‘pride parade,’ and, ‘mass casualty.’
“Got it, thanks,” she says, hanging up the phone. Dana’s eyes find Robby and calls him over. “There’s an active shooter at the pride parade,” she tells him, then, in a lower voice, “Santos is there.”

“I know.” Trinity acquiesced softly, because she actually did know but she couldn’t do that to Whitaker; just make him choose between her wants and his desires. He was too selfless for his own good and she refused to be that selfish.
