Dean’s bi: sexual and polar. He’s got a string of hospitalizations under his belt. He’s a felon. He’s got a secret. And he just might have a crush on the wry, socially awkward, and devastatingly handsome artist who lives in the apartment below his. But Dean doesn’t have friends, and he certainly doesn’t have relationships. He has what his therapist Pam calls “impulsive, reckless sexual interactions.” His attempts at meaningful connection have resulted in ruined friendships, broken hearts, restraining orders, and lifechanging ramifications. Dean is fine. The way he sees it, things are simple. He had a house and a family and food in his stomach, and now he doesn't. And yeah, that's a downer, but he's not going to let that stop him from being fine, because he's in control of the situation. He definitely doesn't need anyone to save him. And it's not like the weird guy with the nice butt from down the road is the knight-in-shining-armor type, anyway.

Throughout the years, Dean had dabbled in his fair share of overindulgences—women, food, alcohol. Violence, even. When he needed something to do with his hands, he’d always known he could simply find any and all of these things at whatever local bar was nearby his and Sam's motel room.
And besides, the weight of a beer bottle against his palm doesn't really feel all that different from that of a gun’s grip, especially when the first time both of them had been placed into his hands had been by his father.
And he figures that the food thing came from his mother, maybe. Some of his earliest memories had been sitting at the counter in the kitchen while she cooked, thinking to himself that he'd eat whatever she put in front of him as long as they could be there, together, forever.
Or maybe he was always going to end up like this, and it wasn't his parents’ fault at all that he was fucked up.
No point in wondering. He'd never know.

Summary
Castiel never expected to see Dean again after all this time, but he can't say he's mad about it when Dean looks this beautiful under a haze of neon lights. No words he's written about Dean over the years could compare. Something about Dean just seems different now, and Cas can't help but want to close the distance, to learn more about the enigma of Dean Winchester.
But Castiel has changed as well, his words and appearance gaining edge and confidence, and the walls he's built to protect his soft underbelly have grown tall.
Dean's been falling in love with the emo queer kid for as long as he can remember, and he regrets losing touch with him for years after being profoundly bonded, so now he's working to try and get him back. If only it were that simple. Does Cas want to know the person Dean is now?
Can they let each other in one more time to try?
