Mukuro teaches Hiei how to handle Shiori (fic 8); the rules of the game are laid out only so that they can be broken (fic 29); Hiei and Kurama discuss euthanasia and the giving of mercy (fic 24); and Kurama learns the perils of entrusting Hiei with secrets when he is too punch-drunk to keep them to himself (fic 26). To name a very, very few of the highlights.

"You have much too soft a heart," said Hiei, after a long pause. "And you end up creating problems for yourself, too."
"I know I do. That's exactly why I'm frustrated." Kurama swept a few more boxes into his basket, tallying up the amounts to make sure he would give back the exact same amount he had received and no more. "But I don't think of my 'soft heart' as a bad thing."
"I never said it was bad," said Hiei, in a surprisingly wounded tone. Kurama glanced at him, but Hiei was peering inside one of the chocolate boxes. Kurama snatched it before he could sample one and put it in his basket, off to the side of the others.
"The last thing you admire is a soft heart," said Kurama, after a moment. It wasn't quite what he meant, but he couldn't seem to figure out what he did mean, and it was as close as he could get. "You would be happier than anyone else if I stopped."
"Yes, but that's what I want, not what you want. And I want you to have the things you want." Hiei said this so quickly Kurama almost didn't understand, and he walked around the edge of the aisle, following the line of sweets, before Kurama could say anything.
