"You shouldn't be drinking," Qiuyuan points out, rehearsed. He can never settle knowing that those from Jianghu could be looming over his shoulder. "We need to get going early."
Rover laughs, his voice ringing like a bell. He doesn't miss how his partner's foot nudges his. "I have you to take care of me, Yuanyuan."
Qiuyuan doesn't have a retort to that, not really. The two of them both know it's true, then he hears the barkeep pausing before them. He wonders what she thinks their relationship is. He would say that it's one of partnership, one built on trust that neither of them will wake up with a knife in their neck the next morning.
"I'm not dragging you back to my room."
