Rogue and Frosch encounter a couple kissing under the mistletoe while they're at the park spending some quality time building a snowman together. Frosch has a lot of questions, and answering them inadvertently helps Rogue realize something he'd been overlooking. He doesn't intend to do something about this discovery any time soon, but Frosch seems to have other plans in mind for him.

It was just a simple mission. That was how it started. It wasn't pain, it wasn't agony, it wasn't Laxus Dreyar in a rage of lightning and fists and Gajeel reduced to utter helplessness in his wake. Feelings weren't supposed to be hurt, blood wasn't supposed to be spilled, and now the world is spinning out of control and they're plummeting to the ground unable to stop it. They're both broken in different ways, both trying to hold each the other's pieces together before together they're shattered. There's a monster at the back door. It's clawing and hungry and desperate for flesh to rend and tear. There's no way they're going to survive, not this time, not without being remade into something unrecognizable from what they once were.

A stunning, captivating masterpiece of fan fiction.
The characters are deep and well-written, including fascinating OCs, there is a lot of development and the author carefully and respectfully explores the abyss of traumatization and the human psyche in general.The plot is set in a huge and well-constructed extension of the original Fiore, and you can easily see how much thought and research went into each setting, reaching from cozy bars to a prison to the exotic realms of a dying cult in the jungle. The story is literally about life and death.
The best thing of all, however, is the vibrant, poetic, enthralling, bewitching language itself. The style is like magic!
StevMarie is always absolutely clear about her tags and warnings in the individual chapters, so please take them seriously. There are a lot of dark topics in this fic, as the title already says. This story is not suitable for those faint of heart. It is for survivors.
There is still beauty and love in an ugly world. And music.
