Duncan returns from a recruitment trip bearing two recruits. Alistair thinks it is a joke when Duncan says one recruit is the teryn of Highever's daughter, Baraneth Cousland. From the way Duncan refers to her, Alistair imagines a stuck up princess chasing glory and facing reality of what a Blight really is. Instead, he finds a deeply broken woman who has had everything stripped from her, and is forced to face the thought that conscription into the Grey Wardens is not always the life line it is painted as.

Post Don't Fear the Reaper ending, Judy needs to get out of Night City, the anonymity and city she once craved and welcomed is suffocating her. The city is eating her alive and there is a V shaped barricade keeping her from running. All talk they had of leaving the city has stalled with V as a shell of herself, and Judy decides it's time to pull the plug the only way she knows how: ruining things so thoroughly that there is no picking up the pieces.

Summary
Book One: Though Darth Nox and Darth Marr have had an occasionally contentious working relationship since her ascension to the Council nearly a year ago, they formed an alliance after Nox saved Makeb for the Empire, and find themselves in a surprising situation on Rishi. What remains to be seen is how this unexpected deviation from mere diversionary entertainment will affect them, their professional relationship, and the Empire.
Book Two: It is a time of upheaval. Kryn and Marr are overseeing the restructuring of the Empire after the destruction of Ziost, determined to stop the mad former Emperor before he can strike again. Contending with enemies both internal and external, they search out long-lost Sith secrets and tentative allies as they guide the Empire toward lasting stability.
Book Three: Even as the Empire, now free of Vitiate's clutches, finds greater strength and cohesion, its balance is threatened by those furious at changes they believe threaten their power and standing. Will Kryn and Marr be able to shepherd the Empire through these tribulations, or will everything fall apart despite their careful plans and best efforts?
