    Eye-patch came off. Scarcely ever did, and each time Fyodor was oddly charmed by Nikolai’s mismatched eyes. Whether one, or perhaps both, were contact lenses or heterochromia was natural, that he couldn't know – seldom is the line dividing truth from lies set in stone, very much like the one separating sanity from utter madness – living and breathing example of the fallacy was right in front of his eyes.

    Nikolai rested chin on a palm and leaned forwards. “Tell me Dos-kun, what do you think is the worse”, he murmured in equally sentimental and derisive tone, as if vacillating between scorn and affections. Despite the sorrowful smile there was something in Nikolai’s expression that alarmed.

    “To clip bird’s wings or to take its voice away?”


    In which Nikolai, driven to brink of madness by love, saves Fyodor from death and helps him recover. Except now that he finally has Fyodor within arm’s reach he won’t be so willing to let go.

    Someone once told Itachi that the lines on his face meant he was cursed. Born under a bad star, saddled with an unlucky fate because of some past karma, perhaps.

    Itachi is not a superstitious man, but maybe there is some virtue in feeling haunted the way he often does—by the pressures of responsibility and reputation, eyes from the heavens and those on earth that stare daggers at the Uchiha crest between his shoulder blades. By painful memories and the way Sasuke’s face resembles their mother’s.

    It’s not until he meets a strange lute singer one day, tangling their lives together with a single glance, that he discovers what it means to be truly haunted. A man whose easygoing charm contrasts with the way secrets seem to swim in his depthless eyes.

    If he’s not cautious, Itachi knows he’ll be devoured by such eyes.

    Itachi had always assumed that Shisui would be by his side no matter what happened, but then he had been offered a mission. The Uchiha Massacre had broken them both in different ways and pushed them apart. Itachi learned to live as a member of the Akatsuki, growing used to Kisame by his side as Shisui tried his best to raise Sasuke.

    Sasuke's defection from the Leaf unexpectedly brings them together. Shisui, Itachi, and Kisame need to learn to work together as a team towards their common goal. It's easier than any of them ever would've expected it to be.

    The Naka River glitters blue when the sun strikes it. Turquoise, aquamarine, and the lapis of the deep seem to shine along with the delicate shade of ultraviolet that Itachi can only ever seem to see in his bird form. The river is pleasant to the touch, and the jealous predators that sometimes watch him from the shore can’t get to him here in the deepest part of the waters.
