An autistic savant with an exceptional understanding of mechanical engineering finds a way to gain freedom from conventional society's demand to exhibit unnatural behaviors like facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice: by volunteering to become an Exo. It's the ideal solution; a way to finally have peaceful coexistence with other people who fall within the statistical average, without being forced to participate in their purposeless social rituals. Meinrad-1 is a success story: a perfect emergency management worker who never needs to rest, who can withstand environments that are unsafe for his human counterparts, who can be counted on to solve the most difficult logistical problems. He flawlessly combines instinct and precision. He lacks the bias of a human past, has no axe to grind... No reason to question the motives of his creators.
When he learns that the Bray Corporation manipulated other, less ideal candidates into becoming Exos against their will, he finds himself confronted with a choice: side with those who gave him freedom from an unknowingly hostile society, or those whom they wronged-- a community that would always see him as the enemy in some way.
