Summary
When Otabek reached Yuri's door he could smell the decay. Flies buzzed around the frame and when he finally managed to peak in, the first sight he saw was the rotting flowers littering every surface. And then there was Yuri. His hair sprawled out like a golden crown around his head and his eyes staring unblinking at the ceiling.
Yuri had hid it as long as he could, but now that his skating was finally being affected by his condition he knew that he was in the final stretch. He hadn't told anyone he was quitting, he just texted Yakov and locked his door. He'd spent hours crying silently as person after person came to bang on his door until finally they stopped calling his name. He was never more grateful to have only one copy of the apartment key. Even until the end he never regretted his decision. He'd rather die a million times than live in a world without his best friend.
