"When you’re a child your memory doesn’t have that consistency that characterizes the adult’s mind, so every time you try to go back to your childhood, there are only tiniest fragments that cannot be put in a clear chain of events. Most of my fragments have something to do with my grandfather. I was his favorite, you see. That’s not up for a debate, my entire family knows that. There’s really no competition. I know that’s not a thing to be smug about but my grandpa had grandsons. Plenty of those. And I still outran every single one of these motherfuckers."

Summary
Kim feels for the Satellite Officer. It’s clear what he’s been through, what Harry has subjected him to over the last few years - Kim only knows the half of it, of course, but he’s seen it before, hermit-cops pushing everyone away, their partner last man standing at the bombsite. Still, it feels cruel to punish this person for it, this wiped-clean, remade Harry, looking at Kim now like a bottle-fed animal about to be released into the wild. If Kim does go to the 41st, navigating all this will be an extra layer of complexity. He should think very carefully about it - about whether it’s worth getting mixed up in all of it. The mess.
A slow-burn, Kim-POV story about going to the 41st, against his better judgement.

The door swung open. “Mr. Burr, sir. This is certainly a surprise. I believe we’ve gotten our roles mixed up. Usually I’m the one breaking down your door at some ungodly hour of the night.” Hamilton’s smirk was heard more than seen. He gestured for Burr to follow him inside, into the dying candlelight.
“Yes, well… I couldn’t sleep, you see, and I knew you would be awake.” Burr was already regretting coming over. He fidgeted awkwardly, refusing to meet Hamilton’s eyes.
“Do you seek some source of entertainment?” Hamilton asked after Burr did not continue. The tension between them crackled with the logs in the fireplace.
