Gustave hates Verso for letting him die. A sentiment that is shared by a lot of Lumiere. But when he realizes that his feelings towards the man may have accidentally caused a lot of problems for Verso including putting him in danger… he can’t help but feel guilty. At Sciel and Lune’s request, he pretends to forge a friendship with him. Trying to show others that he’s forgiven him. And that they should do the same. But the longer he spends with him, the more he realizes he actually enjoys spending time with Verso. And doesn’t want the time he spends with him to be fake anymore.

Summary
Four years after the end of his last long term relationship, university professor Gustave Auclair's life has turned into a monotonous cycle on repeat. His dating life is non existent, his sex life is six feet under, and his younger days as a dominant are long behind him--that is, until he finds himself in a dominant/submissive arrangement with Verso Dessendre, one of the most highly sought after men in all of Lumieré.
It works just fine for them. They're extremely compatible, the sex is great, and the paycheck Gustave gets is even better.

Summary
Then Verso felt it, a strange pulling sensation, not quite in his foot but through it. Like something was being drawn out of him, gentle and careful.
The sensation intensified, and Verso watched in fascination as faint tendrils of color—his color, the gold of his chroma—began to drift from his skin toward Monoco. It moved like ink in water, curling and flowing in patterns that shouldn't exist in the air but did anyway.
When the light faded, there was a man sitting in front of him.
A naked man holding Verso's foot with hands that were now flesh instead of wood, skin tanned and weathered and very, very warm.
"Holy shit," Verso breathed.
In which a lazy afternoon leads to new discoveries.

"I…" Verso tried to think through the fever-haze. "You're painted. Wood and… metal. Given life by the original Verso's brush."
"And?"
"And... I don't know. I never really thought about it." Shame crept through him. "Why?"
"Because Gestrals have designations just like you humans do," Monoco said quietly.
The words landed like stones. Verso stared at him, mind struggling to process what that meant.
"You have—" He couldn't finish.
"Verso… defaulted all of us to Alpha," Monoco continued, and there was something raw in his voice now. "Every Gestral."
Oh.
Oh gods.
In which Verso's heat suppressants run out, forcing him to confront feelings he thought were impossible.
Or; Monoco helps Verso through his heat.

Summary
Gustave had been out of sorts for a week now. His work at the Aqua Farm had demanded longer hours from him for the better part of the month. He’d been working from sun up to sun down, working on a new engine design that might work without chroma so that they might develop better forms of transportation. But there were failures, so many failures. Engine parts that weren’t moving efficiently, output that was being throttled, and a design that quite frankly rankled at him probably more than it should. He was close, frustratingly close, to seeing it all complete, and it had been driving him mad.
Arguably, maybe, uncharacteristically so.

Gustave's glance flickered to the gesture. His breath instinctively turned shaky, and he rubbed his prosthetic hand over his arm. 'I don't know…just because? Some bird chittered that you liked sweets, so I… uhm –

Simon’s gaze flicked to Verso, and his smile softened, a quiet tenderness in his eyes that Verso knew was reserved for him. “It’s just a name,”
“Modest as ever,” Verso said, stepping closer, their proximity natural, unremarkable to anyone watching. He caught the faint scent of leather, earth, and something distinctly Simon—grounding, familiar. His eyes dropped to the sword, its hilt worn from years of use, and he tilted his head, voice lilting with playful innocence.
“Can I… hold it?” he asked, voice lilting with playful innocence, his cute smile—small and crooked—flashing up at Simon.
Simon’s chuckle was soft, his defenses crumbling under that smile, as always. “It’s heavy, Verso,”
Verso’s smile turned mischievous. He leaned in, lips brushing Simon’s ear, voice dropping to a sultry murmur.
“That’s not the sword I meant.”

Quick even on the wet stone shelf, Astarion skittered over and planted a hand on that fragile chest, shoving him into the wall. In lieu of speaking his disdain he hissed, baring twin rows of needle-sharp teeth.
Stay, stupid.
Oh.
His human's eyes went so wide when Astarion did that, so wet, and somehow they were even prettier. So too did that fluttering heart kick up under Astarion's palm as brittle ribs swelled with heavy, heaving breaths, even as the rest of that whiskered face remained stubbornly impassive.
A pleasant shiver coursed through Astarion's body and pooled low. Like swimming through a cold spot, the chill clinging in his wake. Something deep, hungry, essential within purred, so very pleased to see such a willful creature cowed, attentive, and in spite of his best efforts, afraid.
The rest of Astarion rather liked it too.
Astarion's existence is simple: eat fish, collect trinkets, and always listen when the master calls. After centuries of dragging sailors down into the dark, it only takes one fateful encounter to remind him of something long-forgotten: he was not always a monster.
