Three years later
“Please, please,” the man begged on his knees.
“Pathetic.” The mechanical voice echoed through the warehouse, disguising the true owner’s but not concealing the disdain he spoke with. “The women of the street tolerated your abuse with their heads still held high, and yet it only took 15 minutes in this building and here you are sniveling on the ground.” Clearly his reputation preceded him. Good.
“I’ll leave!” The man trembled. “I’ll leave Gotham tonight! You don’t have to do this.”
“No, I don’t have to.” The man looked up with a look of hope for a brief moment before it was crushed. “I want to do this. Trash like you doesn’t belong on my streets.”

"Is this really what you want to do with your life?"
Jason scoffed. "Of course it is. Bruce deserves this for not killing the Joker."
"A true thing," said Talia, "but that is not what I asked. Vengeance is a noble cause, but it is all-consuming. It will encompass your entire life. Though I do not know why, you have been given a second chance at life. I do not want you to waste it doing something that will not bring you true happiness. So, I'll ask again, is that really what you want?"

Instead of enacting revenge on the Bats, Jason becomes a theater teacher. Somehow, he still ends up helping out the Bats with their nighttime activities as Red Hood.

Summary
Jason Todd grew up with a fundamental fear of being seen. Not in the sense of shyness, but in the sense of shame. He supposed, if he wished to contemplate the fear’s origins, he might start where most tragedies do:
The house he grew up in.
Where the act of wanting was as good as a death sentence to that desire.
He supposed he might even make an argument for the statement “people become what they are called”. He thinks that might have some merit, looking back.
What he fears most, (like most other people), is how obvious it is to others. The fear itself.
He wonders if they can see it.or
Thanks to a rogue meta, the batfam gets to watch Jason's memories like a movie; and Jason just really wants a family again. But you cannot be loved if you aren't known, and well... if circumstances provide? might as well take the chance, right?
