Summary
Truth be told, Zagreus hadn’t spared Thanatos a thought when he left, that first time. The idea of never seeing him again simply hadn’t crossed his mind. It was too big, too absolute: impossible. Of course they’d see each other again. They’d grown up together, shared secrets and embarrassments and struggles. Even Hypnos – Than’s own twin! – had laughingly called them two sides of the same obol.
Or, Zagreus' friends wish him well, but really, how can one god be so oblivious?

Summary
Crowley isn’t sure what it means, that everything is nearly back to normal. It was a big enough miracle that he and Aziraphale made it out in one piece, to say nothing of their worldly possessions. It makes him uneasy. There’s no such thing as a free lunch, so they say, and Crowley isn’t sure he’s able to foot the bill. But looking at Aziraphale’s small smile at the mention of his books, he’s not sure there’s an amount he wouldn’t pay to keep it there.

"You have committed acts of grace," Aziraphale says. "I’ve seen it. Virtues, as plain as day. Only… they weren’t plain at the time."
"And you’ve sinned," Crowley says. Grins. "Rather a lot, sssometimesss."

Summary
So when Aziraphale hears, through the grapevine, that an exorcism is supposed to happen on New Year’s Eve in Major Gruber’s flat, he knows that despite his general distaste for exorcisms, this is where he is going to be, on the slim chance that the demon Major Gruber and his spiritist friends have found is the same one Aziraphale appears to have lost.

Summary
“Well, this brings back memories,” Aziraphale says eventually, a chuckle warm in his voice.
“Our first date,” Crowley agrees sarcastically, wriggling to wrap the blanket more tightly around him. It really is soft. “You wore white and a near palpable patina of nervous guilt.”
“I was giving serious consideration to the concept of ineffability for the very first time,” Aziraphale says, with dignity. “It would leave anyone a bit preoccupied. You were so curious, about everything,” he adds, a wistful lilt to his voice that Crowley doesn’t quite understand, though it makes his heart do strange things in his chest.Another conversation in the rain, 6000 years later.

Summary
Crowley attempts to sleep off recent events. It's a form of self-defense.
Aziraphale putters, and thinks, and finally acts.
Part 1 takes place between the bus ride home from the apocalypse and ice cream in the park.
Humans will go about and muck things up and perform minor miracles of their own, and that is still joyous, wonderful. Because Aziraphale loves humanity—more than he was meant to. It's not generalized enough, a kindly and paternal distance from them. It's up close and messy: he's coveted their food, glutted himself on their words, succumbed to the sloth of a long afternoon with their wine.
And still, it is not nearly as close and messy as the way he loves Crowley.

Summary
It began, like most memorable events in Crowley’s life did, with a bad decision; like most bad decisions, it involved poor impulse control and copious amounts of alcohol. The Antichrist had been born, and he put on lipstick and kitten heels to deal with it, but knew that the clock was ticking, and at times when time was slipping away, it helped to hold onto a bottle of gin.
