You were still saying it, when it scraped everything else out of you, so there’s this two-second memory span in which you know:
Something came. You sent it away. And in your fear, your blast radius too wide, you sent away everyone else who had ever maybe loved you, too.
Is it part of the accident, is it payment for what you did to the rest of them, you don’t know. But most of you left with them.
What you felt was the end of the word tingling on your lips, and something like steel wool pulling up and out of your throat, out of your body.
And then you fished and fished and fished through what was left inside the shell, but you knew nothing, remembered no one, maybe because you couldn’t get off without it hurting. Maybe because you shouldn’t be able to get away with the fact that you can never, ever ask any of them who you are again.

The Dolorosa and the Signless, in a series inspired by the angle on their story best portrayed in Regina Spektor's "Braille."
The series was spawned, really, because of Matron: Ascend and the desire to give Rosa figuring out how to mother Signless, and Signless figuring out the world, and the two challenging the world together, a series to live in.
