Summary
When her stomach finally settles and she’s stopped dry heaving, he picks her up and carries her around to the passenger seat. The glovebox yields an old packet of Kleenex, and he wipes her face off for her while she does her best to help while she’s still uncoordinated from the drugs in her system. After an attempt at taking the tissue ends with her poking herself in the eye, he gently catches her hands and sets them on her lap.
“I’ve got it,” he tells her, and then she just closes her eyes and leans her head back.
He lets her rinse her mouth out and then take a few sips of water, and he waits to make sure it’ll stay down before he buckles her in and leans the seat back so she can sleep more if she wants.
“Happened?” She asks, eyes fluttering open through sheer stubbornness, but he just cups her clammy cheek and kisses her temple.
“I’ll tell you later,” he tells her.
Trusting him, she falls asleep once more.

It’s not that Ellie means to stalk the couple she catches lurking in the shadows at 1 in the morning after sneaking out of her dorm because sitting in the room alone was making it hard to breathe, but fellow curfew-breakers can hardly expect privacy. All’s fair in love and rule-breaking or whatever their English teacher said in one of the rare classes when they were learning something not related to FEDRA policy.
And there’s something in the way the man holds his hand out to help pull the woman up over a crumbled brick wall that she just can’t look away from.
There’s a gentleness there despite his size and obvious strength that makes her breath catch for just a second. It’s too far for her to hear what they’re saying, but the woman says something with a little half-smile and presses her hand to the man’s shoulder, and the casual affection of the gesture fills her with a nameless want.
So, trailing them at a distance it is.
(AU in which Ellie follows Joel and Tess around and meets them with no Fireflies involved)

“Yeah,” said Jaskier, resigned. “He does that sometimes. Isn’t it a bitch?”
They were half way through the second bottle by now, and their shoulders were touching. She could feel the hard line of Jaskier’s thigh against hers. She was very aware of the chest hair visible at the open neck of his shirt, and how he could probably see down her dress from here. She hadn’t moved to put any distance between them and neither had he.
“Why are we still talking about him? I don’t care about Geralt of Rivia any more,” lied Yennefer.
“Nor do I,” Jaskier lied back.
