For Sirius and Regulus Black, the answer has never been simple. Each of them has their own idea of what family means, though neither could explain it easily—not until much later. Because figuring it out… that took time. And pain. And lots of learning.

Sirius pushed his tangled hair behind an ear and stood up, seeing that he had their attention. Harry burrowed his face into Remus’ neck and squeezed his legs tighter together, pushing out the little air Remus still had left in his lungs. For a second, Remus considered to keep on walking forward and never come back.
