Liam’s heart stutters in his chest when he realizes the boxers he’s wearing are Liam’s. “You’re welcome.”

Suddenly, the silence broke. Not with a roar, but with a sharp, piercing hum, like a thousand glass insects. The sound pierced their eardrums, echoing directly in their centers of balance. Liam staggered, clutching his head with a grunt of pain.
Theo gritted his teeth, the vibration resonating in his bones. It wasn't a physical attack. It was mental. Emotional. He felt a wave of alien panic, of confusion, and knew instantly it wasn't his. It was Liam's. The hum was amplifying, draining something from them.
Before he could react, a figure materialized out of nowhere. It wasn't a man, nor a beast. It was a humanoid form made of shifting shadows and distorted reflections, like a mirage on a moonless night. It had no eyes, but Theo felt its attention fixate on Liam.
"Liam!" he shouted, but his voice sounded muffled, distant.
