Summary
He could either be himself in spirit or name; the two could never coexist.
Paris, 1894. Virgil Arquette had one rule he lived by: he could never, never be himself openly, for society is not kind to those who are different and unashamed of it. It isn't a big deal, he's actually on the luckier side; he has a friend who cares about him, a home and a fair amount of wealth, a father who has not disowned him (yet), and his poetry, the one thing he loves, the one safe space where he can be himself.
Then a ridiculously extravagant (and definitely not gorgeous) actor sweeps him off his feet and into a new world, one where he might have a place to belong. As he spirals deeper and deeper into Roman's world, he finds himself along the way - and learns that just maybe, life doesn't have to be lived on someone else's terms.
TL;DR - They're disaster gays in love who try very hard to be pretentious. And to not simp for each other. They fail on both accounts, obviously.
