Maria Robotnik has lived for fifty years on the planet she once looked down upon from the ARK. She's had a fulfilling life, the medication she takes making her condition less life threatening and more chronic. Still, she's now in her 60s and she's not getting any younger. There's still one thing she wants more than anything. Her little brother. The reason she's still alive to begin with has been locked away all this time. He needs the chance to live a life of his own.
And it's hard to expect life to remain simple even when she does get him out. The world keeps turning and her cousin is still determined to take over it. Just as she and Shadow start to settle into a new normal, they have to fight for the world, though they're not alone in the fight.
And Shadow? Shadow is quickly learning that even in the new "normal" everything is somehow weirder than his life on the ARK. Especially when encountering a certain blue hedgehog.

Summary
Maria has come to a realization: she's going to die. Naturally, she takes this about as well as one could expect; after all, even she has her limits. Upon realizing that she's the sacrificial lamb that pushes Shadow towards his future, she can't help but be upset that she's the price of the world's survival.
When she meets a new face in Amy Rose, the latter gets to see how the lamb feels about being led to the slaughter, and how much it hurts to be a supporting character in someone else's life. Amy isn't content to let Maria face this news alone; she'll do whatever it takes to help her through this time.
Even if it means helping Maria find a way to change the past.

Summary
Shadow made the ultimate sacrifice. He warned Professor Gerald of Maria’s fate, saving her but damning himself in the process. Based upon the Professor’s hypothesis, he initially believed that he would cease to exist. He suffered a far worse outcome. Cast out into the void beyond time and space, he must share his newfound prison with the very entity he trapped there.

Meanwhile, a new timeline was born, one where Maria got the chance to grow up. Different versions of Sonic and Shadow nurse a budding relationship. What will become of them when both worlds collide?

Summary
Sometimes, all it takes for the world to change...is a little timing. Suppose GUN found out that Gerald was jerking them around a little earlier, when Shadow wasn't as grown/developed? Suppose his escape pod was just damaged enough that GUN never found him, in all those years? What might he become, without Gerald's manipulations? What might he feel, younger and still bereaved? And what might he decide, in a little house by Never Lake, with the person who found him instead?
A look into how things might have gone for Shadow, if the worst day of his life hadn't been followed by GUN and Gerald each trying to outdo it. Rated T due to Maria's final moments, realistically described, and for references to emotional/psych abuse by Gerald to keep his medical experiment compliant.

By definition; it's seeing something in a positive way, often thinking of it as better than it actually is.
But for these two it's a wild tale of overcoming differences and odds, with danger looming on the horizon. Throughout it all, they try to remain optimistic that everything could work out for a new beginning, but maybe they're blinded by the rose-tinted glasses...
