Summary
“I had been right, I was still right, I was always right. I had lived my life one way and I could just as well have lived it another. I had done this and I hadn't done that. I hadn't done this thing but I had done another. And so?”
― Albert Camus, The StrangerBucky has spent his youth living life with an expiration date; letting his impulses lead, taking for granted what he had, uncaring of what others thought about him. But now that his shelf life was seemingly over, he has to think about what comes next. And worse yet, he has to do it all on his own.

Summary
“I just read your letter, made my choice, took care of things and drove here. That was the plan. From now on, I have no idea.”
Bucky looks at him, mouth agape, then he gasps with his usual, overdramatic flare and says with feigned disbelief, “You’re telling me that Major Buck Cleven, the pillar of the 100th, just acted on impulse? Oh, sound the alarms! Rally the troops! The man has gone crazy!”
“You’re an idiot,” Buck huffs, fondly.

Summary
Brady shakes his head, speaking to Buck, “You’ll never get rid of him. He follows you around like a lost puppy looking for scraps.”
And Bucky can’t really argue with that so he shrugs and plays into it, says, “I’ve been thinking of moving to Casper, Wyoming. See what all the charm is. Long as I can dodge the dog catchers I might make a life for myself there.”
Buck snorts next to him.

Summary
Before he can stop himself, he picks up the phone. Every ring seems to last for eternity. Please, he thinks, be there, pick up, don’t be dead, don’t be gone…
“Viktor?”
His heart jumps. Silco’s voice is muffled, sleep-thick, but oh so achingly familiar. He had not realised until now just how much he missed it.
“You do realise it is 2 o’clock in the morning?”
He tries to speak but no words come out. The guilt, perhaps, has stolen them.
“Has something happened?”
“Papa,” he finally whispers. “Papa. Papa.” And then all of a sudden he is bawling his eyes out, horrible, heaving gasps and sobs torn from his throat, wracking his thin frame, and distantly he is embarrassed, but he cannot seem to make himself stop.
Worn down by the crushing weight of (not actually) unrequited love, workplace disputes, past trauma, and the existential dread that comes with being an overachiever in your twenties, Viktor finally breaks. Papa Silco comes to pick up the pieces.
Returning to his childhood home in Zaun for a long-overdue rest, Viktor must reckon with his past, his future, and the terrifying prospect of allowing himself to be loved and cared for.
