Briana tilted her head. “We’re still joining up with Yugi and Joey?”
“You are. And Mokuba too.”
“We most certainly are not, unless you join as well.”
“It’s the safest play for you. And you’ll be with your sister.” If the Pharaoh had taught him anything, it was that he couldn’t always win.
“So you don’t see a way out of this either?”
“Give me time to think, a good strategy takes more than a minute. I’ll be fine.” And if he wasn’t, he would fight till the end.
Her eyebrows lowered, “Yeah, well, a good strategy doesn’t involve actively sending away useful resources.”
“You’re letting sentiment cloud your judgment. You’ll be safer with Yugi.”
She scowled. “If personal safety was my top priority, I’d never have become friends with you in the first place.”
He couldn’t argue with that. But there was no good reason she should refuse his plan. “If this is about your position, I’m sure Yugi will find a use for you, even with all his peasant followers.”
“Gee, thanks.”
He sighed. “ Your desire to feel needed is warping your—”
“I’m not taking a lecture about keeping what I want out of my decisions. Not from you, Kaiba.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”

Summary
Up till now, you had only held the ripped Blue-Eyes at the game shop. This one was beautiful. You could imagine its roar. Feel its presence. Holding the card was an honor—you felt like Kaiba had handed you part of his soul.
“Do you know what that card represents?” Kaiba asked.
“You?”
Kaiba almost smiled. “You spend too much time with Yugi.”
You realized your mistake. “Your power.” It wasn’t a guess anymore, you knew you were right.
The corner of his mouth twitched upwards for a moment, before seriousness won out again.
“Listen,” Kaiba stared at you intently, “We’re about to step into enemy territory. You can’t show weakness or fear, because our adversaries will pounce on any opening you provide.”

Summary
It was supposed to be a simple job; she had offered to do it for free, after all. Spending a day with Mokuba at Kaiba Land should have been enjoyable. However, when an up-and-coming gaming company decided to force Seto Kaiba into a duel, he asked her to help him win back his brother. Apparently, the super rich handled problems in their own way, without help from the government, or a safety net to fall back on, and she allowed herself to be thrown into a high-stakes game she doubted she deserved to play. (Post-canon. Anime dub continuity, with a version of DSOD included in the timeline.)

Summary
Seto Kaiba loved three things, his brother Mokuba, his company Kaiba Corp, and Duel Monsters. As long as he had those three things to protect, his life had meaning and purpose, and he felt like he could go on forever. What should he do when Mokuba makes it clear he wants to do his own thing for a while, without his older brother at his side? Yugi would say he needed to refocus some of his energy on a friend or two, but friends would be a weakness, and, it's not like Kaiba has any friends anyway, right?
