Summary
Aerys II passed the crown to his son Rhaegar before his madness could bring about the downfall of House Targaryen. A few years into King Rhaegar's reign, the dragons come back to life. When more and more rangers get lost beyond the Wall and priests of R'hllor begin to see visions in the flames of the upcoming threat, it strengthens Rhaegar's belief that the war for the dawn is about to come.
But with only two children, Aegon and Rhaenys, to ride the three dragons and with several political crises, even to the point of threatening rebellion against the crown, lurking in the shadows, the danger for Westeros and all of mankind seems greater than ever. Suddenly the burden of saving the realm and all of mankind rests on the shoulders of Rhaegar's children, known and unknown.
