Kaveh’s hands move to cover his face, palms muffling his words as he mutters, “It’s—not quite like that.”
“Well, the ‘sick’ aspect is accurate, at least.”
“No shit,” Kaveh snorts. “The ‘love’ component, though—it’s, uh—”
“You’re not in love?”
He coughs. “The greenhouse in my lungs begs to differ. I—it’s more that my body is mourning a love it knows can’t ever be requited.”
For all the negative feelings Alhaitham’s encountered over the past twelve hours, the sensation that creeps through him now is…
Unfamiliar.
Unknowable.
Despite all the languages he’s fluent in, Alhaitham is unable to conjure a word or phrase with which he can immediately label it. He just knows that whatever this feeling is, it’s unbelievably unpleasant. Like his body is stationary, yet his internal organs are plummeting into the Abyss.
“You love someone who doesn’t love you back?” he asks after a moment.
Kaveh has Hanahaki. That much is known. But who he loves, and whether Alhaitham will be able to save him, is up in the air.

Summary
Ezreal's attempt at pinching artefacts from the temple of Thanjuul had the Shadow Order send their bloodhound to track him down all the way to the Noxian capital where the explorer was trying to dodge yet another assassin with a capture order on him. Thinking he had managed to evade both, his victory is short-lived when one of them still manages to stake their claim on him. Only, this presented Ezreal with a new opportunity to conduct a much more fruitful exploration.

Summary
When Kaveh announces that he’ll need to temporarily stop taking suppressants, Alhaitham assumes that he must be an omega. After all, that’s the only logical reason that Kaveh would have pretended to be a beta for all this time. It’s the only logical reason that Kaveh would ask Alhaitham, an alpha, to leave the house for two weeks.
Except Alhaitham has made a rare miscalculation—and helping Kaveh will be much more difficult than Alhaitham expected, when his own instincts keep pulling him in two different directions.
“To clarify,” Alhaitham says, “you’re saying you’ll feel safer if I’m not here. Do I have that correct?”
“That—that’s not exactly what I said.”
“You said that you don’t know if it’s safe. That implies a degree of uncertainty, which means that you’ll feel less uncertain—and therefore safer—if I’m not around.” When Kaveh doesn’t respond, Alhaitham adds, “I’m just making sure I understand the situation correctly.”
“To be honest,” Kaveh says, “I don’t think you understand the situation at all.”

Alhaitham just agreed to attend his mother’s wedding. As his date. Things are completely fine.
In which Alhaitham accompanies Kaveh to his mother's wedding in Fontaine. With roots like these, it was only a matter of time until things came back around.
