And that's not taking into account the fate of a certain beloved member of the family or the turbulent atmosphere at the Devil May Cry headquarters...

All his worries about a potential trap fade away. Just when Vergil thinks he can cast aside his fears entirely, one simple phrase destroys the beautiful image:
"Who's Dante, honey?"

"You a demon?"
The man tilts his head up, and Nero realizes he'd been staring at his arm this entire time, only bothering to assess the rest of him up close. There's a sickeningly long pause, the world tilting on its axis.
Then the man's eyes roll back and he drops to the floor with a quiet thud.
(An AU in which Vergil never manages to take Nero's arm, instead splitting into V and Urizen right there in the garage. Nero suddenly finds himself taking care of a wounded demon and a very sickly man, while trying to piece together the mystery of who these two really are.)
