Zhongli stares at the way blood is licked from Childe’s lips, from the way some still drips down to his chin and stains his skin a shade of red far too tangy to be the crimson he had accustomed himself to from times of perpetual hardship.
Words form on his lips, but he is rooted in place in this terrible display.
The air is suffocating, their safe haven intruded upon by images of Zhongli’s failures resurfacing to ruin the power he had on himself.
Childe smiles.
It is abyssal.
It is monstrous.
Zhongli is horrified by his lack of control.

Those are some of the first words Ajax, starving college student extraordinaire, has the misfortune of hearing upon waking up in a brave new world from what he's fairly sure is a very fatal accident involving water and a shit ton of electricity.
Okay, so he's not dead. That's good. But what's this about him being stuck playing the character Tartaglia? Tartaglia, as in the no-good, one-dimensional, cartoonish villain who met his untimely, gruesome death in the first act of the original game?
Forget this. Like hell Ajax is going to share that fate.
And so begins one man's journey to save himself from his awful destiny.

Promptly, Jon snapped the book closed, his skin crawling a bit. He just invaded Martin's privacy. For Christ's sake-his bloody poetry book? Why was it on his desk in the first place? It looked like something that could've been seriously haunted, for all he knew! Doesn’t he know where he works? His personal belongings do not belong here. He really should have a talk with him about that.

Martin swears he used to be optimistic when he was younger. But. You spend 32 years mostly alone, eventually you start thinking practically. Martin doesn’t get things like this. He doesn’t get to stay up late in cafés with cute boys and flirt and get asked out at 4:00 in the morning.
He thinks, as he crawls back into bed half an hour later to try and salvage at least a little bit more rest before tomorrow begins, that he really hopes Jon proves him wrong. He hopes Jon sticks around.
Or: Somewhere Else, Jon and Martin get the chance to fall in love without the weight of everything they left behind.

Subject has demonstrated increased preoccupation with observer’s mental and physical well-being e.g. subject’s placement of jar of Prentiss’ ashes in observer’s office, subject’s repeated insistence on the observer “getting some rest”, and subject’s hovering in office doorway Friday morning until observer was able to present empty mug as evidence of having drunk all his tea. Additional cause for suspicion originates from subject’s references to his own deceitful activities found in letter addressed to subject’s mother.Not sure whom he can trust, Jon keeps a close eye on Martin. A very close eye.

Summary
Dishes are any easy task for the two of them. They're too real to keep Martin from accidentally fading, they require enough focus for Jon's thoughts not to wander too far, and well, they're still taking every chance they can to brush up against each other.
Not that either of them has said much about it yet.
He keeps coming back to the letter. He had started carrying it in his pocket, folded as small as possible and pushed deep under everything else, just in case Peter could sense it. It had helped keep him grounded in his purpose as the Lonely started to catch at him. Being Lonely to save Jon was worth it, Martin still believed that, but it had been hard to keep that in his mind sometimes.
