-------Look, Percy didn't want to be a half-blood. Being a half-blood was dangerous and scary, and the chances of dying a horribly painful death were extremely high. If "being a half-blood" were a profession, it would surely be on web pages with titles like "Why Men Live Shorter." But precisely because he was accustomed to danger, when Percy woke up, lying on the hard wood of a tree root—remembering well having slept in the comfortable bed of Cabin 3—he didn't scream, no matter how much he wanted to. Silently, he cursed every god he could think of in a three-second burst.

Summary
Zuko realizes his destiny much earlier. As in, as soon as he wakes up in the palace after his Agni Kai and is told he is banished. Unfortunately, he's never been a patient one. So he storms right up to Ozai and tells him what he's going to do. And gets locked up for over three years. Then, one day, he's being pulled out and told he's the new Fire Lord.
A "Zuko never meets the Gaang and suddenly becomes Fire Lord after three years of literal torture" AU. In which the Gaang doesn't know what to think of the new Fire Lord who happens to be the missing nephew of Aang's firebending teacher, Iroh constantly has a headache, and, sure, maybe the world hates the Fire Nation, but the Fire Nation LOVES Zuko, and he can work with that.

Summary
Kuzon never meant to betray his nation.
He never meant to end up in the Spirit World.
And he never meant to end up in the future.
All he wanted to do was find his best friend Aang at the Southern Air Temple. But after discovering that his best friend was the avatar and promising Monk Gyatso that he would find Aang, Kuzon spent the rest of childhood hiding from his nation and searching for Aang. At some point along the way, he slipped into the Spirit World. When he finally finds a way out, more time has passed than Kuzon could ever imagine. The Fire Nation has almost completely taken over the world and the avatar has only just resurfaced after one hundred years of silence. Kuzon knows that it's been far too long for it to ever be /his/ avatar, but he'll track down this new avatar no matter what it takes.
And, while he's at it, taking down the Fire Nation sounds pretty nice, too.
tl;dr: A fic where Kuzon pops out of the Spirit World after almost a hundred years, decides to go to Ba Sing Se and ends up becoming an older brother to Zuko while working in the same tea shop.

Three years after Prince Zuko is imprisoned after his Agni Kai, he escapes - just in time to arrive at the climax of the Invasion of Ba Sing Se. From there, he travels with the Avatar's team - first as a political prisoner and then, maybe (and indignantly), as Aang's firebending teacher.
(Zuko wonders why Agni let him suffer in the cold for so many years only to make him the Avatar's mentor. Destiny is a cruel, complicated thing. It takes him a while to figure out his.)Series
