Caspian doesn’t see it at first.
In all fairness, most of them don’t. It seems to be the creatures that recognize what they are seeing first, pointing out what they seemed to feel should have been obvious to the rest of them. He has no idea who these four children are, who are traveling with a dwarf straight to their camp.
These are the four Kings and Queens of Narnia, from the Golden Age. All the Golden Age monarchs are children, and Caspian feels some of his hope drain further away at the realization.
