Summary
"I hate half things, half heartedness, stupid false situations, inverted feelings, pumped up loves, and hand decorated hates. . . . I want things straight and clear or at least I want to be able to see where they're crooked and confused. Anything else is just nasty and so my life is nasty and I am ashamed of it. And I have an albatross around my neck that I didn't even shoot. I simply don't know how he got there." ~ K. A. Porter, Ship of Fools
An extension reweaving, based largely on Julian and Asra’s routes and my own interest in seeing what happens when one changes genres from visual novel to prose narrative and can utilize a specific protagonist within such a compelling world and concept. I’ve concocted and incorporated backstory, attempted to fill in some perceived plot holes with asphalt, trailed a plotbunny or two into the weeds, and thrown in a couple handfuls of spice here and there.
9/27: Now with a little more Val/Lucio. ;) New material is ch. 26.

Summary
Tasked by an imperious Countess Nadia with determining the culprit of Count Lucio’s murder, Dema discovered that the murder is closely tied to her missing memories. Asra was her lover before he was her protector - why couldn’t he just have told her? She can’t quite remember the accused Julian, but she knows that she loves him fiercely, and the thought of losing him pushes her closer and closer to the point where she’s scared that her mind will break. Even if the damn fool is convinced that dying will let him return with a cure for the plague that threatens to resurge in the city.
There’s a damned ghost, goat - something - that appears to be preoccupied with her existence. And her cards have decided to quite literally start talking to her.
Maybe she’s already mad?
Rather darker. Rather trippier. Here, when we say ‘I’m having an existential crisis,’ we damn well mean it.

Summary
"I was fully confident I’d come back --!”
“Which is the only reason I’m not astral projecting into the afterlife with your sister to smack you upside the head with Mazelinka’s spoon,” she said. Only half-joking. She was pretty sure the three of them would have found a way.
