    In other words – never.

    Summary

“What is going on here?” Lady Featherington asked as she barged into the room alongside Lord Featherington, catching Colin alone with Penelope.
After confronting Lord Featherington, he went to leave, but Lady Featherington grabbed him by the arm. Colin turned to look at her in question.
She pushed Colin back into the room with Penelope. She paced back and forth as she spoke. “While I appreciate what you did here, that does not explain why you were in here alone, unchaperoned, with my daughter.”
    “Mama, Colin wouldn’t!” Penelope shouted.
“I do not know that! So, it does not matter! All I know is that he was in here with you, alone, unchaperoned. How do I know he has not taken liberties?”
“Colin is a gentleman!” Penelope shouted again.
“If he was a gentleman, then he would know not to wander off with a lady of your nature and find himself alone and unchaperoned!”
Colin stood there with his eyes wide and in shock. Her mother was right. He took advantage of his close friendship with Penelope and didn’t think about the Rules of Propriety. He had done it many times before, but this time, they were caught. He was going to have to marry Penelope.

    Summary

Colin Bridgerton has written a book, and it’s been surprisingly successful. There’s one small snag: his publisher thinks his female pen name is really him. What’s a boy to do but ask an old friend for a little favour, just one publicity appearance, while his publisher puts out a second print run? Surely she will say yes? Surely their own history and feelings won’t get in the way? And surely things won’t spiral from one little white lie to maintain his anonymity into... a publishing deal at risk, a possible Netflix adaption offer, and, oh God, a romance writers’ conference?

As his old friend Pen likes to say, "It’s go time, girls."

(a.k.a. a story extremely loosely inspired by the Claudia Karvan & Hugh Jackman romcom, Paperback Hero. No planes and no Hugh Jackman in this story though. Sorry.)
