You’ve dealt with pain your entire life.
You don’t really know when it started, but it’s a constant presence. Just another reality you have to live with. And you accept it with as much grace as possible. Try to treat the pain as friendly as you treat everything else (because maybe if you’re nice to it and don’t complain, then maybe it won’t last as long or hit as hard).
“A faulty aura,” the countless doctors and physicians your parents took you to would later reveal after quite a few extensive (and expensive) tests. “Something went wrong while she was unlocking it.”
“Is there a cure?” Your mom held you in her lap and your dad kept his hand at your back and you were too busy playing with your Beowolf figurine to truly pay attention. The pain had been merciful enough to leave you for now, but you know he’ll be back. He always comes back.
“I’m afraid not. There are ways to ease it and help her grow adjusted to it, but as of now, there is no known cure for it… I’m very sorry.”
