Summary
Of course Ilya wasn't going to choose him.
And now, he stood in their kitchen like a stranger, having to pretend to be okay with the fact that Ilya went out and hooked up with Svetlana on a night meant to celebrate hockey's greatest. A party he wasn't even invited to as a captain himself.
He spent the entire day coming up with meticulous loopholes and justifications for something that was actually quite simple—nobody remembered. Shane was wholeheartedly forgotten and he was too proud, or maybe dense, to figure it out himself.
Or, the one where Ilya forgets Shane’s birthday. Coping ensues.

Summary
Laughter came from the living room, where Ilya and his mother were watching a movie. He loved to hear Ilya laugh. It was one of his favorite sounds in the world.
He would rather be in there with them, watching whatever they’d chosen, even if he’s never heard of it and wouldn’t like it at all, which was the usual when it came to Ilya’s taste in movies.
But his mom wanted his decision by tonight so she could follow up on the offer tomorrow morning.
So Shane got to be boring. Again.

Summary
In the wake of losing his team and having the fans and media turn on him, his professional legacy in ruins, Shane keeps repeating the same phrases to himself. Because he just got married so he is happy, and he has a new team, new friends, so everything was fine.
It was fine.
He is happy.

Summary
“We are just glad he didn't trip, yes?”
That's the last thing Shane heard before his head went underwater. He didn't realise how he got dressed, when he had snuck out, how he got to the car or when he'd gone home.
He was distantly aware of Ilya blowing up his phone halfway through the drive. Shane had let it ring.

Summary
Dennis Whitaker tried to find answers in God. When that didn't work, he turned to medicine.
And when that didn't work, he turned to the two married attendings.
Or I heard we were making Dennis Whitaker have religious trauma and I decided to help out.
