Summary
“Shut up,” Danny says with a smile. “You’re the worst best friend ever.”
“That would be true if I wasn’t about to give you a Kelly heads-up,” Steve murmurs, and Danny’s eyes fly open. “He’s at your two o’clock.”
Sure enough, the most frustratingly enigmatic and attractive member of the NASA engineering team is pushing open the back gate of Mueller’s yard. He’s wearing khakis and brown leather shoes, but instead of his usual crisp, dark jacket, Chin Ho Kelly is wearing a soft, green polo shirt, sleeves tight around his biceps. Danny’s palms start sweating. He’s going to blame the heat.
It's 1964, and Dr. Danny Williams has a mission to complete. Though, if he's honest with himself, he might actually have two.

Summary
Auston tries not to stare.
But then he quickly gives up when the guy is shirtless in front of him: all lean muscles, just too far on the wrong side of skinny but with smooth, pale skin, upper arms and sides of his chest covered with ink, light brown hair tousled and cheeks tinted with a nice flush; either from the cold or the exertion of the skateboard ride or both. His jeans sit low on his hips, providing Auston with a glimpse of another tattoo next to the right hip bone.
It's only half a second, yet it's enough for Auston's mouth to suddenly feel as dry as the desert in Arizona.

Summary
“I’ll inform KP you won’t be coming back in for a little while now. You still can don’t get me wrong, but I think we might be a little preoccupied in Toronto.” They shake hands, and Nick reaches out to clap Cole on the side of his shoulder. “Officer Caufield, you’re a lot shorter than I expected.”
Cole rolls his eyes playfully and shakes his head. “And you look like the rejected member of The Cure. What’s good, Detective?”
“Call me Nick. Or whatever you want, just not Detective.”
“Everyone just calls me Cole.”
And then he was gone, leaving Cole alone in the coffee shop once again. Even though the circumstances are strange and he hardly knows this guy, here’s something about the case that just feels right.
Or wrong, depending on how you look at it.

Summary
Give me these years again and I will
spend them wisely.
Done with the compass; done, now, with the chart.
The ferry at the dock, lit
stern to prow,
the next life like a footfall in my heart.– excerpt from “The Night Ferry”, a poem by John Burnside
When someone asks you to think of the world, what do you think of? Your own world – small, insular, personal, intimate? Or the wider world – complicated, nuanced, complex? Is it beautiful, or is it dark? Can you see the beauty, or do you only hold on to the headaches?
She is new to the world. Quite literally. And she needs to learn about it.
Does Matthew Tkachuk have the patience to teach her?
CW: this story deals with cults, polygamous cults, escaping cults, strict adherence to religion, gender roles, abuse, miscarriage, and a character with a traumatic past. Please be warned.
