    Frex has tolerated Elphaba dating Fiyero for two years, waiting for the boy to tire of her or for Elphaba to come to her senses. But when Elphaba reveals that she and Fiyero intend to marry one day, he loses his patience.

    Because he knows the idea of Elphaba as Vinkun queen is utterly ridiculous. And surely- Fiyero's parents having common sense that Elphaba and Fiyero clearly lack- they must agree with him?

    So Frex makes his move.
