Riza blinked at him. "…You seemed occupied," she said, after a moment.
The colonel grinned at her. "What, are you jealous?" he teased, and there he was back to flirting with her like it wasn't the time or place for such jokes.
Like it didn't make her stomach flip.
Riza isn't worthy of love, not from him. So why does she want it so badly?

He could imagine himself with her, both wearing fine clothes. Her in a red dress that sparkled like her eyes, silky opera gloves, and pearl jewelry. Hair in an up-do, of course, and a bold red lipstick to match the dress.
He would wear red too, in a pocket square or a bowtie. Just a black suit would do for him, well-tailored and smooth.
Maybe he would bring her a red rose. He’d watch her eyes close as she brought the rose up to her face and inhaled its sweet scent.
Watch as red lips curled into a smile, just for him.
If he was lucky, maybe he would go home with a bit of red lipstick on himself.AU where Team Mustang (and a few others) work at a jazz club!

She still didn’t say anything.
Sanji grabbed another plate out of the cabinet, setting it on the counter, too.
“My love, if you want something then say so. I mean, if you don’t want anything then that’s okay too! I’m not trying to get you to leave or–“ he trailed off, turning to look at her again.
She was frowning, eyebrows furrowed, like she was holding back tears.
“…anything,” he finished, in a mumble. “Nami?”

Mustang flayed out his stiff fingers as best as he could, keeping his head down and tone soft as Al pondered what he said. See him the way he knew how? What exactly did that mean? The Colonel was blind, so he had to depend on other ways to get around, like seeing, hearing, feeling-but he wasn’t sure how any of that would help him.
Of course Al was more than willing to let the Colonel get an idea of how he looked, but he didn’t know what he was asking.
Then the realization hit him like a ton of bricks, and Al had to resist the urge to smack his face out of sheer frustration for not realizing it earlier.“You want to feel my face?”

Summary
Kakashi volunteers to take a mission with Iruka based on idle curiosity, but ultimately he discovers more about his fellow shinobi than he originally intended.
Iruka eyed him in much the same way Tsunade had when Kakashi delivered the sealed scrolls with their mission assignments later that week. Denial played over his face first, followed by annoyance, and finally a blank refusal. “I don’t want to go on a mission with you,” he said. “I would rather fester with disease.”
Kakashi gazed at him for a long moment, trying to decide if he meant it. He poked at the scroll in the teacher’s hands. “Directly from the Hokage. I don’t think you’ll be able to get out of this, Sensei.”
