Sherlock’s phone vibrates against the cold surface of the bench. Ten, nine, eight. What do we say about coincidence? Sherlock jabs the message open and finds a video waiting to be played. He presses the innocuous little arrow and the blurry grey screen resolves into a scene of such incomprehensible horror it takes his breath.'
A deathly countdown reminds Sherlock with every passing hour of all the ways in which he has failed.

'Molly stood on the pavement, calming her breathing as her heart raced. Down the side street beside the castle entrance, she watched a high black iron doorway open to let a police van out. Molly watched the grilled back window of the van as it drove away, feeling the gold ring pressing into her palm.

Molly looked at Windsor Castle.'
Molly attempts to escape her reality, but it comes crashing back into her. She might find it easy to help Sherlock again, hard to stop trusting him, but can they find whatever else is meant for them hidden among the mysteries of a legendary fortress?

His hair was drying and curling, hers teased her own shoulder blades like feathers. It was so quiet, closeness made up the world, and it was possible for them to be still.'
A slow, sleepy summertime moment of quiet Molly makes sure Sherlock doesn't rush away.
