The voice, Feng Xin registered dumbfoundedly, despite the broken phrases in which it spoke mingling into each other, tumbling over each other so fast it sounded like there were at least four Mu Qings speaking, was now as clear as day and impossibly close, far too close to be coming from someone who had just turned and was facing away from him. In an ultimate attempt to refute his suspicion, Feng Xin let his mind flicker to their private communication array, only to find it firmly closed. He stared at Mu Qing’s back, wide-eyed, his mouth suddenly very, very dry. If he wasn’t hallucinating, then there was only one explanation for what was happening:
He was hearing Mu Qing’s thoughts.
