Summary
The easy greeting on his tongue dies when he picks up the sounds of a struggle, eyebrows creasing with concern.
"Mehrshid- are you okay?"
Her voice is strained, her answer distracted.
"Fine. Maveth, I need a favor."
His worry grows. Mehrshid doesn't sound like this unless she's truly upset about something.-
Mehrshid calls Maveth, asking him for help.
Her work partner, Naim, has been sent on a dangerous mission behind her back, alone, and her own mission is keeping her unable to help him.
Maveth is going to keep an eye out on her behalf.

“Poor little library god,” a voice says. It isn’t gentle, but it’s not harsh, either. It’s entirely matter of fact, as though this is simply a routine business transaction. Jon hates it instantly. “Don’t worry, this will soon be over.”

Summary
Jon is still for a moment. Then, slowly, he lifts the front of the folder. Martin deliberately does not look, so catches Sasha’s mirror image of his own alarmed face when Jon gasps sharply.
“Jesus,” he whispers.
“What, Jon?” Tim prompts, leaning forward.
“This is…” he scrubs a hand down his face, and gulps. “It’s what started everything. All those years ago.”
“Jon?”
He sucks in a breath, and reads.
“Statement of PC Lillian Westbrook, regarding the sudden manifestation of injuries on a young witness, and his subsequent admittance to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Statement given November 15th, 1995.”

Summary
There’s a new hire in Research. He’s small, and that is the word. He isn’t short, or squat – scrawny is closer to the mark but implies a sort of wiry lopsidedness that doesn’t fit right. He’s just small, like if you took an average sized person and scaled them down. He walks with a cane and keeps his head lowered. He wears some sort of brace or glove on his right hand. Silvery marks pepper his neck and jaw. He doesn’t seem to talk much.
“I’ve got a name,” Sasha reports, perching on the side of Tim’s desk. She’s just back from a coffee-machine gossip with Rachel, who had been ignored by the new hire in favour of staring at his shoes. “Jonathan.”
“Compensating for size with syllables, classic move.” Tim peers around her to mentally affix the name to the hunched figure curled into the corner desk. “Word of advice, avoid at all costs a one-night stand with an un-shortened ‘Bartholemew.’”
