Mack and Will are at his parents’ place in San Francisco when it happens, watching the Stanley Cup final like every other hockey fan on the face of the Earth.
Mitch has met Scott Hunter hundreds of times by the time he watches him wins the Stanley Cup; he considered him and Scott friends of a sort and has been running around Auston’s Toronto residence like a madman for the past minute, yelling out in joy when the clock struck zero.
After playing hockey for so many years (Jesus, he was old), Sidney thought he’d seen everything the game could throw at him; he’s been hit in the face with a puck, concussed to many times he can’t even count them, and had the mumps of all things during his time holding a stick for Pittsburgh.
The final buzzer blares and Jack leans over his stick, catching his breath. A few teammates pat him on the back and Luke stops beside him, laying a hand on his shoulder and keeping it there. “We’ll get ‘em next year,” is all he’s able to say to his little brother.
