Summary
Robert Chase is a known pretentious brat. With his father’s money, his mother’s good looks and an aptitude for medicine, his whole life has been smooth-sailing. He is as self-absorbed as he is vapid and vain.
No one cares to see past the surface. Until it is stretched thin, and all the secret intricacies that make Chase who he is are exposed.
OR
A collection of short stories in which the ducklings and House see different sides to Chase that they never noticed before. Early duckling trio.
Ch1 summary:
The diagnostics team are midway through a case when they hit a rut. With tests bringing forth no answers, their typical illegal examination of the home reaping no fruit and questioning the patient no longer an option as she has now fallen comatose, they have one last card to play; interviewing the only known relative, her mother. The problem is, she doesn’t speak English.
When House and the others try to communicate with her to no avail, it’s up to Chase to give it the last shot. No one expects much — House is already halfway on the phone to Cuddy for a translator.
However, will the Australian surprise them? Perhaps he has more tricks up his sleeve than they previously imagined.

Chase, eager for approval, slowly begins to see House as a father figure without realizing it. He starts mirroring House’s behavior, seeking his validation, and acting overly loyal. House eventually notices and, amused, tests the theory—calling Chase pet names and assigning odd tasks. When he finally confronts Chase, the younger doctor is embarrassed but admits he just wants to be seen.
Later, Chase gets accidentally locked in a hospital room, triggering childhood trauma.

Chase's cheeks burned with shame. He contemplated getting a taxi, but then he laid eyes on House’s car on the other side of the road. He must have gone with Wilson this morning. Chase knew he shouldn’t borrow House’s car, but his mind was already made up. He went back inside, opened House’s and Wilson’s front door, and nicked the car keys.Series

Summary
“Look, Mr Surgeon. This breakfast is a family matter. Most people would have had the curtesy to leave. Yet here you are.”
Chase stared at his plate, his face red as a beet.
House slammed his fist at the table so hard that the china rattled. “Shut the fuck up, dad,” House hissed menacingly.
“No, I want to know. Does he work here? He opens your door, he makes breakfast, he refills coffee? Is he a live-in maid?”

Summary
Chase stared at his hands in his lap, while his brain went haywire. Of course, he loved House and Wilson too. It made him genuinely happy that they said they loved him. And he acknowledged that this was a kind gesture. But parents were scary. They beat you up all the time. What he enjoyed most about being an adult, was to not have to be in constant pain anymore.
But maybe it would be worth the pain, if he got to belong to a family who wanted him? Chase suddenly shivered. He realized that the pain might actually be worth it, but the fear...? He couldn’t hold back the tears. This was a dream come true, and he was gonna have to turn it down because he was a coward.
“I don’t know… I love you too, so much. But I don’t know if I can go back to that life. I’d be afraid to fuck up all the time. And I know you wouldn’t hit me as hard as my real parents, but…” Chase’s voice trailed off.

Summary
Chase's birthday was coming up, a day he dreaded like no other. His parents didn’t see eye to eye on many things, but one matter they agreed on was his birthday routine. That was the day he was held accountable for every past infraction imaginable. They kept tab. He couldn’t remember a single birthday growing up where he had been able to go to school, that day or the next. Sometimes he wondered if his teachers thought they were Jehovah’s Witnesses. But he knew he was safe now. No-one knew when his birthday was...

Summary
Rowan Chase paused. He was sweaty, and he took a good look at his well-punished son. He knew Robert could take more.
“This will teach you, huh? Not to misbehave. Because if you do, I’ll always make time in my schedule to correct your behavior.”
“I’ll never misbehave again! Please, dad. I’m sorry!”
“We’re not done yet,” his dad replied cruelly, and lifted his arm again.Series

Summary
“So, I’m your favorite person?” House aimed for a mocking tone, but it came out more as a regular question.
Chase looked up from his novel.
“Of course,” he said plainly, before continuing reading.
House was touched by the lack of awkwardness on Chase’s part.
“Well, that’s…” he started. “That’s just gay, Chase,” he deflected.Series
