Summary

“I’ll be fine, you know.” A cheeky dimple appears as Zagreus smiles. “I can’t die, remember? At least not permanently.”
“It doesn’t matter that it’s not permanent. Every time you die, I feel it.” Thanatos takes one of Zagreus’s hands from his waist and places it on his chest, over his heart. “I feel it here.”
Zagreus’s fingers curl into the material of his chiton. “Than…”
“A light goes out inside me, and a void lingers, there, where you should be, until I sense your return.” Thanatos looks away from Zagreus’s eyes then. It feels like flaying himself alive to confess to this. “It’s not as small a thing as you make it seem.”

“Than,” That damnable smirk. “Are you saying you were turned on?”
“Don’t make fun of me.” The embarrassment in his chest was only tinted more red-hot by the indignace that now joined it.
Zagreus was oblivious to his misery. “Gods, I love it when you blush like that.”
Thanatos could feel it, the gold prickle through his cheeks, stretching up practically to his ears. No matter what Zagreus said, it did not make him feel attractive. “You mock me.”
“I would never,” came Zagreus’ immediate and sincere reply. Then, turning so that he could lean into Than’s space, “Tell me what you’d like.”

Zagreus begins to feel isolated within the House of Hades. He longs to see the world, he longs to quit his duties in the administrative chamber, and most of all he longs to be with Thanatos. After years of enduring life within the House, Zagreus breaks. He must escape.

Summary
Thanatos watches everything Prince Zagreus does, but talking about it has never been his strong suit. He's found keeping his emotions hidden is best practice, and doubly so when the person you want wants nothing more than to leave the home you share forever. He feels selfish, so selfish, but he can't stop himself from hoping Zag can't leave, from hoping he'll stay so Thanatos never has to find out what it's like when Zagreus finally goes.
Scenes and implications from the game retold from Thanatos's perspective. Pining! Unspoken love! Boys not knowing how to talk to each other but needing to be close even when one runs away over and over!
