“If you had a 450ml water bottle, pure water, and it was room temperature, how much energy would it take to raise the temperature one degree?”
“Oh!” Deku’s eyes lit up. He knew this one from physics class. “It’ll take 4.186 watts!”
“Or one calorie, exactly. So in theory, if you could control the calories your body produced and aim it towards this 450ml bottle of water, one calorie would raise it one degree. If you had a 200 calorie sandwich, you could raise the water 200 degrees before you ran out of energy.”
Deku’s mind connected the dots before the researcher could finish. His eyes widened. “If my caloric intake hasn’t changed since I got my quirk, then the energy isn’t coming from the food I eat. So where is it coming from?”
The researcher grinned. “That’s exactly my research, Hero Deku. Why is there a sudden caloric energy being generated in humans spontaneously without a baseline energy source.”

Kudou let himself grin, showing all of his teeth.
“And we will never let you leave, anyway.”
Yoichi’s eyes narrowed, and he smiled back with just as many teeth.
“Good. I don’t intend on leaving.”

“A few years ago,” Izuku, his boy, chokes out. “A few years ago my dad was hurt really badly by a villain. He has always been a big part of my life. Unshakeable, really. A lot like you, All Might. He’s strong. But seeing him on the hospital bed with tubes and stuff hanging out of his stomach, it was scary.”
Izuku breaths out. “I thought to myself, ‘This is a person whose life is very important to me. Why would a villain do this to this man?’ and realized that that is what everyone thought about every single victim of any attack or disaster, ever. ‘This person is dear to me, how could someone do this?’ so,”
He looks up, those bright eyes shining under his wildly trimmed bangs that Toshinori trimmed just that morning in the sink before he went to school. “So I want to make a world where there are no villains and no more deaths, so nobody has to see their parents lay dying, unable to do anything. My dad is fine now, but when I see him struggle to eat, I curse the villain that injured him so horribly.”
“But I am quirkless.” His son says. “My dad is too. So I was wondering,”

“Can I be a hero, too?”

“The vestiges spoke to me very briefly before they passed. One for All is an ember now,” All Might raised his head from his pillow. “But even sparks can become a blaze under the right conditions.
“So,” For the first time since Izuku woke up in the hospital, tears welled up behind his eyes. “So, the source isn’t gone? It’s still there?”
"I doubt One for All can truly leave any user. I don’t think the vestiges will be coming back, though. But I can still use just the bare minimum of One for All even now, even after I transferred it to you and you gave it to Tenko. I think,” All Might smiled, a bright looking thing with wrinkles around the corners of his mouth. “That if you train just as hard as you have before, you should be able to blow those embers into a bonfire once more.”

The king murmured, turning his muscular form towards the castle, watching the black miamsa rise and fall in gentle waves. “A long time ago, I made a promise to my son, and I failed to uphold it. I died here, all alone on this Plateau, unable to assist him.”
The king turned back to look at Katsuki, eyes glistening with tears. “I have no right to ask you of this. I am nothing but a failure of a father who could not assist his own son. But please,”
Yagi Toshinori fell to the floor of the rotten steeple, and were it not for his ghostly form Katsuki would have caught him. He passed right through his fingertips, like the wind. The king bent into a bow, a plea and a beg.
“Save my son, Katsuki. Help him kill All for One.”

Hornet woke in the Black Egg Temple to the sight of her sibling's fractured mask. For the walk from the temple's central chamber to its exit, she thought herself truly alone in the world once more.
When Hollow followed her out, she realized that wasn't so. But now she has to try and take care of her older sibling as they recuperate and learn to live in a world where they do not have to be pure, figure out what to do about what Little Ghost left of a body, and try to piece together two kingdoms which fell long ago.
Life keeps throwing her surprises, too, which does not help.
