A little snippet from my old canon divergence where a young Nie Mingjue comes to Meng Yao's aid after being kicked down the Koi Tower stairs, there will be a part 2 when I get around to uploading. But I'm really trying to showcase my younger A-yao so he can be better understood.

"Meng Yao!"
Nie Mingjue thundered out. The only response he received was the fading echo of his own voice. He knew he was about to act impulsively, but he hadn't been thinking clearly in weeks.What did it matter?
He couldn't let him leave just like that.He took swift steps towards the rain-dampened curtain Meng Yao had disappeared behind just moments before, his eyes grappling onto anything and everything before him-- he hardly noticed the rain itself. Nie Mingjue felt his head swim with an oh so familiar rage when he caught glimpse of a svelte figure standing directly beside the entryway from which he'd burst forth. Meng Yao hadn't gotten far at all.
Slowly, the shorter man lifted his head to look at his superior, his soaked locks clinging to his graceful features.
"You always go yelling and chasing after me, Da-ge…. You've become so predictable." -

Summary
A 12 year old Nie Mingjue is ready to prove to his father he's more than ready to handle his assigned saber spirit, Baxia. With his little brother Nie Huaisang in tow, the two brothers sneak out of the security of the Qinghe-Nie Clan wall and go into the dense forestry of the Unclean Realm. Once they get lost, their focus becomes finding adequate shelter before the yao and beasts emerge to feast.
