Summary
El runs and she keeps running until she's about as far away from home as she figures she can get. And as the years go by, she manages to carve out a peaceful sort of existence. It's not a happy life, but she's content with the knowledge that the loved ones she left behind are safe and happy.
But while Mike's safe, he's not happy, not by a long shot. He's living a half-life, living under the shadow of the love he lost... of the love he knows is still out there, somewhere, waiting for him to find her.
And when Mike finally has enough of surviving without living and embarks on an aimless journey to find her, El knows her days of isolation are behind her. Because the longer Mike tries to search for her, the more attention he brings to himself and the more likely he'll put himself in danger. So she leaves a trail of breadcrumbs to guide him to her, as always willing to do anything to keep him safe.
And when they reunite in the sleepy village El has learned to call home, they'll learn if they can move past the shadow of the history they share... and if they can rediscover the love that once shone brighter than the sun.

Summary
“Mike, I heard you.”
There’s no need to clarify what she heard – there can really be only one thing she’s referring to. Mike gulps, nervousness winning out, but he doesn’t look away, eyes locked firmly on hers. “I was, uh, I was hoping you did.”
-
In the aftermath of the fight against Vecna, Mike and El make their way back to Hawkins... and to each other.

Summary
“Whatcha doing?” Mike asks in a low whisper, voice raspy with sleep. He turns his head and presses a gentle, lingering kiss on the skin right below her ear, making El shiver with the casual intimacy of the gesture. “Gracie ok?”
El nods and it takes her a second to find her voice. “Yeah,” she whispers back. “Just wanted to watch her sleep for a little bit.”

Mike and El get their happily ever after.

Summary
Lucas would follow Mike into the depths of hell and out into the unknown. He's known this since the day he met him.
Somehow, he didn't think that included following him to Iceland with nothing but Mike's coke fantasies as proof.
Max is going to kill him.

Summary
“Lucas, what do you think?” Mike directs his question to his oldest, most trusted friend. Was he just clinging onto childish hope, or was this a mission worth tackling?
“I think we should have helped El when we had the chance,” Lucas answers honestly, guilt cracking at the edges of his voice. “And now we have one.”

What if the party was grieving El more deeply than what was shown in the epilogue? What if they didn't just believe, they knew? What if they had one last mission, to bring their mage home?
or
The party travels around the world to find El, and they finally do.

Summary
What was he supposed to do? Settle for a life with someone he could never give his whole heart to? Smile politely and pretend he wasn’t hollow? Go to work, come home, sleep beside a stranger who deserved more than the scraps of affection he could offer?
Turn into both of his parents?
Fuck that.
or, an attempt at rectifying that misogynistic dumpster fire of an ending

Summary
“It’s like something’s been on your mind for a while and you’re not—you’re just keeping it to yourself.”
Her throat works. “Am I not allowed to do that?”
She doesn’t mean to sound defensive, but the words come out like that anyway. Mike blinks, a little surprised and she can’t blame him for it, but the gentleness of his voice doesn’t fade. “Of course you are,” he says with a nod. Never one to deny her anything.
It sends an aching pang through her chest. He’s always on her side, puts her above everyone else—including himself. He has shown it to her time and time again, proved to her repeatedly that nothing is more important to him than she is. And that—that worries her.
