    The footage is shaky; the paparazzo must have been hiding behind a pole in the parking garage, ducking and swerving to stay out of sight. The video zooms in on a car window. Two people inside. They sit stock still, frozen for a moment. Then the driver leans over and punches the passenger on the side of his face, the camera tracking the way the passenger’s head whips to the side and smashes into the window, blood spraying from his mouth to coat the tempered glass. Another punch lands. More blood.

    Oscar had never really put all that much thought into his status as a beta.

    As a beta, his secondary sex didn't put anywhere near as much of an effect on his every day life in the way that being an alpha or omega would. He didn't experience heats or ruts, and well… his ability to scent was baseline. His own scent was mild and even, much less prone to souring. In turn, he wasn't as affected by the scents of others either. It meant he had a pretty easy time on the track, all things considered.
