Summary
Max Mayfield was used to keeping people at a distance. She knew how the world worked: there were those who cared about you, and those who didn't. Mike Wheeler, it seemed, belonged to the latter—at least, that's how it looked when she tried to fit in with their group.
But something changed.
Suddenly Mike notices when she's too quiet. Suddenly he's there when she's hurting. Suddenly his hand on her shoulder is not an accident, but something taken for granted. He says the right words at the right moment, sees what she carefully hides, and acts as if she had always mattered to him.
Or Mike treats all his friends the same way he treated Will in seasons 1 and 2 — and that's how it's always been

Summary
Sure, there are things to enjoy about trashy novels from time to time. For instance, the fact that you can turn your brain off and pretend you’re in another world for a while. But Mike is pretty sure that he won’t be heading toward that aisle of the bookstore any time soon. Definitely not. In fact, he isn’t even a little bit curious about what happens next between Lord Fabian and Lady Larissa. He’s more than happy to forget about them entirely—heaving bosoms and all.
It’s a month before graduation, and things are finally starting to go back to normal in Hawkins. After years of constant life-or-death situations, everyone is trying to relax and make up for lost time. Unfortunately, Mike’s body also appears to be making up for lost time—in ways that Mike finds utterly mortifying.
TLDR; Mike is dealing with late-onset teenage horniness, and starts writing smut about it. Things get decidedly non-heterosexual pretty quickly.

In which Vecna takes Mike rather than Holly, and instead of distracting him with pancakes and dress-up in the Creel house, Mike wakes up in 1995 in a New York apartment with a suspiciously unclothed Will.
(Loosely inspired by that one infamous glitch in the matrix reddit story where the dude dreams a whole life, stares at a lamp a little too hard, and wakes up mourning a life that never existed.)
