If he’d never flipped open the cover of Oczy’s book, driven by incredulous curiosity, if he’d never skimmed that first page, and then read it again and again, increasingly unbalanced by the spread of sincere words in an awkward hand, he would never have known what was churning away in that inexplicable man’s head. He’d never have known just how much their meeting had meant.

Summary
Two and a half years have passed since the death of Detective Bobby Fulbright. A year and a half has passed since Blackquill has been free of his shackles. The world keeps spinning, yet he can barely manage to stay in the present. Life has moved on from the events of UR-1, the Phantom, both HAT Launches. But he hasn't. Simon can't stop thinking of what could have been.
The world still continues to spin even when Blackquill locks eyes with a dead man walking while down at the precinct.

When a death row inmate is forced into a rehabilitation program, it doesn't go well. He's deemed unfixable by every person assigned to help him, and it seems hopeless. That is until the Chief Prosecutor uses the ace up his sleeve: Detective Bobby Fulbright. Unfortunately for Simon, Bobby sees right through that facade he spent the past 6 years painstakingly crafting. He soon finds something harder than lying - facing the emotions he hid for so long.

Simon was going to die in less than a month. It was an inescapable fact and he knew it. So surely he was allowed to lose himself just this once? Surely that was justice in its purest form?
